You may have noticed the new and exciting quilt now hanging in the dining room. This piece was designed and created by the Quilting and Sewing Group. The ladies of this group wanted to make or do something to celebrate Alberta’s 100th birthday and this quilt is the result.
Against the sky blue background they have applied a number of examples of life in Alberta during the past 100 years. Here are found stitched and appliqued pictures of Lois Christie, Joan Satchwill, Mary Ohrn, Reta Anderson, Gene Armstrong, our Legislative Building, oil wells, dinosaurs, elevators, model T Ford, school house, churches, teepees and many, many others. Each has been created in fabric and thread, some appliqued and others stitched in needlepoint. Only a few of these are listed.
There is one particular piece acknowledging the Group of Five who fought to have women recognized as persons while another corner shows a group of women quilting.
Stories will be recalled and memories evoked by those who examine this quilt.
